AMMAN: The President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), Khaled Fanatseh, met with Celeste Drake, Deputy Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), to explore avenues for joint cooperation and coordination on labor issues of mutual concern. According to Jordan News Agency, Fanatseh highlighted the significance of the partnership between GFJTU and ILO, which has facilitated the execution of various projects aimed at improving the rights and protection of Jordan's labor groups. These initiatives focus on creating safe work environments for women, enhancing social protection, and regulating the employment of Syrian workers. During the meeting at GFJTU's headquarters, Fanatseh emphasized the Federation's commitment to social dialogue as a means to tackle challenges in the labor market. He acknowledged ILO's support for programs that improve Jordan's work standards and contribute to sustainable development and labor rights protection, in line with ILO conventions and recommendations. Fanatseh also outlined the GFJTU's reform plan initiated this year, which aims to strengthen its role and improve its structures to better defend workers' rights and support economic and social development at the national level. Drake expressed ILO's willingness to collaborate with GFJTU on joint projects that promote decent work across Jordan's economic sectors and activities, and to help increase the membership of labor unions in the Kingdom.
