Government Adjusts October Fuel Prices Amid Global Tensions

Amman:The Oil Derivatives Pricing Committee has announced new fuel prices for October, implementing partial increases for gasoline and diesel, while maintaining current rates for kerosene and cooking gas.

According to Jordan News Agency, the prices for Octane 90, Octane 95, and diesel will rise by 50 fils per liter. Meanwhile, prices for kerosene and cooking gas will remain unchanged. The updated prices are: 90-octane gasoline at 1,050 fils per liter, 95-octane gasoline at 1,360 fils per liter, diesel at 900 fils per liter, kerosene at 550 fils per liter, and the LPG cylinder (12.5 kg) fixed at JD7.

The committee cited regional geopolitical tensions as a factor in the global market surge. To mitigate the impact on consumers and the national economy, the government has decided to absorb part of the price increase rather than transferring the full international costs to consumers.

In addition, the government will allocate JD1.8 million in subsidies for industrial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for October. While domestic fuel pricing is generally based on the average international prices over the previous 30 days, local rates remain significantly below actual market costs. For October, these costs were 1,077 fils for diesel, 1,044 fils for kerosene, and 1,112 fils for Octane 90.

Since the start of the energy crisis, the government's subsidies and price absorption efforts have totaled approximately JD255 million through September. Officials have stated that they will continue to monitor global energy trends on a monthly basis to maintain a balance between consumer protection and fiscal stability.
