Government Pledges to Enhance Reliability of Jordan’s Energy Supply: Kharabsheh

Aqaba: Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring the stability of Jordan's energy supply by enhancing infrastructure and boosting generation efficiency. He highlighted that maintaining the readiness of the electricity system is a top national priority.

According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement following his inspection tour on Monday of the Central Electricity Generating Company (CEGCO)'s facilities in Aqaba, Kharabsheh underscored the necessity of continued coordination among all stakeholders in the sector. This collaboration is crucial to meet the rising electricity demand, particularly during peak times.

The minister noted that this initiative also seeks to cater to the needs of various sectors, aligning with the industry's strategic objectives and vision. The tour, intended to evaluate the company's preparedness for the summer season, included a visit to the Aqaba Thermal Power Station (ATPS), where Kharabsheh reviewed operational facilities and fuel storage and handling systems.

During the visit, company officials briefed the minister on the performance of generation units, reliability and efficiency metrics, and future plans to enhance technical and operational efficiency, thereby ensuring the continuity of the electricity supply.

Meanwhile, Ziad Sa'aideh, Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), stated that the commission consistently monitors the technical performance indicators of generation plants to ensure compliance with approved standards, thus strengthening the security of the electricity supply under various conditions.

Sa'aideh further mentioned that collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and electricity companies is vital to ensuring the power grid's readiness and enhancing the ability to anticipate and manage emergencies and increasing electricity demands effectively.
