Gov’t ‘keen’ to improve provincial councils’ performance, services- say ministers

Ministers of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abul Samen, and Local Administration, Walid Masri, discussed ways to enhance coordination and overcome challenges facing the activities of Jordan's provincial councils. During a meeting at the Ministry of Public Works Wednesday, the two ministers discussed the legislative system for the councils' operations, based on the "actual" feedback and experience. The duo also went over articles of the Local Administration Law No. (22) of 2021, and the guidelines to procedures for drafting Jordan's governorate budgets for the years (2023-2024), according to a joint statement. The ministers were also briefed on the capital budget of provincial councils (Works Sector) for the years 2023-2024, discussing ways to accelerate completion of their projects. Furthermore, the two ministers stressed the government's keenness to ensure success of the councils' operations and overcome the challenges and obstacles, aimed to achieve "comprehensive" development and confer further powers at the governorate level to set citizen-based priorities and make related decisions.
