Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Hawari, on Thursday launched Jordanian American Physicians ( JAP) organization’s project to support Critical Care Medicine Fellowship program for adults in the Jordanian Ministry of Health.
The project is implemented by the ministry, in cooperation with Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS), funded by US Agency for International Development (USAID), according to a ministry statement.
The fellowship program aims to develop physicians’ skills working in Al-Bashir Hospital / Intensive Care Center, and improve quality of medical and treatment services provided to patients, the statement added.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Hawari stressed the importance of the fellowship program in providing the ministry’s hospitals with qualified medical staff to develop intensive care services according to the “highest” standards.
Hawari noted the ministry started to support this program and began its implementation in Al-Bashir hospitals with the aim of strengthening medical staff working in critical care units.
The ministry has studied its hospitals’ and health centers’ conditions to identify “true” training needs, which would support operations aimed to providing services in the “best” way, and accordingly, spot the “vital and necessary” needs that should be given more attention, he said.
Hawari praised USAID’s support for a number of the ministry’s projects and initiatives, including cooperation with JAP aimed to enhancing Jordanian health sector’s role and attracting many Jordanian expertise in the United States of America to share their expertise, he noted.
For her part, USAID Director, Sherry Carlin, lauded the ministry’s efforts in responding to Covid-19 pandemic, stressing the importance of the joint “strategic” partnership.
The project is being implemented by a group of Jordanian physicians with U.S. expertise and includes training tours, training in simulation lab using special equipment for critical care patients’ treatment, as well as weekly research seminars on the latest global developments in providing health care in intensive care departments, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the fellowship program provides training in anaesthesiology, surgery, and thoracic and abdominal diseases in the two-year program by specialists from the public and private medical sectors.
