Amman: Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) Secretary-General Mashhoor Rifai and South Africa's Ambassador Tselane Mokuena convened to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation in science and technology and developing partnerships in scientific research and innovation.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions revolved around financing joint research projects and exploring areas of mutual interest. The potential signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a long-term strategic partnership between the HCST and its South African counterparts was also considered.

During the meeting, Rifai emphasized the strength of Jordanian-South African relations and expressed HCST's interest in establishing links with South African institutions. He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise and benefiting from international experience in research management and innovation.

Rifai reviewed the council's programs, including the integration of the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund under HCST's umbrella, aiming to enhance institutional integration and advance Jordan's research and innovation system. He advocated for effective partnerships with local and international industries and discussed mechanisms for technology transfer and research commercialization.

An initiative supporting students in Gaza through the El Hassan Platform for Learning was also presented by Rifai. This initiative is in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Palestinian Ministry of Education, and several universities in Gaza.

Ambassador Mokuena praised HCST's standing in scientific circles and urged for productive cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. The ambassador highlighted the importance of networking HCST with South African institutions and strengthening ties among universities, research centers, and industry, particularly in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
