A hot spell is expected to sweep the Kingdom on Wednesday, pushing temperatures high and bringing hot weather nationwide, except in the highlands where it will be relatively hot, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

As we head into Thursday, the impact of the heat wave will persist, with mercury levels soaring to 4-6 degrees above annual average. Therefore, scorching weather will prevail in most regions until Friday, with clouds at medium and high altitudes, mainly in the southern and eastern areas, the JMD added.

The Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba are set to swelter in blistering weather, the forecasters predicted.

The highs in Amman and other highlands across the Kingdom today will range between 36 and 31 degrees Celsius, dropping at night to 25C or even 18C in the southern highlands. In the Gulf city of Aqaba, it will be much hotter with mercury reaching a high of 42C and a low of 28C.
