Amman: The Lower House Health and Food Committee is prioritizing the enhancement of health services in Jordan, with an emphasis on providing comprehensive health insurance for all citizens, according to its head, Dr. Shaher Shatnawi. This initiative aims to benefit the public and improve the Kingdom's overall health situation.
According to Jordan News Agency, during a session focused on the contributions of Dar Al Dawa Development and Investment Company, Dr. Shatnawi highlighted that healthcare expenses represent a significant portion of the Jordanian family's budget. He emphasized that King Abdullah II consistently underscores the critical importance of ensuring swift access to medicine, food, and treatment for all citizens.
Dr. Khaled Harb, CEO of Dar Al Dawa, discussed the vital role of the health sector in Jordan's economy, noting that it is the country's largest export industry. With 30 factories contributing to exports valued at $1 billion in 2023, the health sector is a crucial component of Jordan's industrial landscape. Harb also mentioned that a robust domestic pharmaceutical industry plays a significant role in reducing healthcare costs, thanks to its high-quality products offered at a small profit margin.
Despite its strengths, Harb pointed out that the industry faces various internal and external challenges that hinder export growth. He also detailed that Dar Al Dawa is a public shareholding company valued at JD112 million, with annual profits amounting to JD4 million.
