House Speaker and Greek Ambassador Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Regional Peace Efforts

Amman: Speaker of the Lower House Ahmad Safadi and Greek Ambassador to Jordan Irini Riga convened at the House of Representatives to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation between Jordan and Greece, with a particular focus on parliamentary collaboration and addressing regional challenges.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussion between Safadi and Riga emphasized the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, highlighting its role in preserving the city's identity. Safadi stressed the need to bolster and expand joint relations for the benefit of both Jordanians and Greeks, particularly in the realms of trade, culture, tourism, and education. He expressed aspirations for increased scholarship opportunities for students from both nations and underscored Jordan's commitment to deepening ties with the Greek Parliament across various sectors.

The meeting also addressed the pressing regional challenges, with Safadi calling for unity to end the Israeli war in Gaza, urging intensified international efforts to deliver urgent humanitarian aid, and rejecting any plans to occupy Gaza or escalate tensions in the occupied West Bank. He affirmed Jordan's dedication to seeking a peaceful resolution based on the two-state solution.

Ambassador Riga commended Jordan's pivotal role in promoting regional security and stability, praising His Majesty King Abdullah II's moderate stance, which advocates for peace, dialogue, and conflict resolution. She echoed Greece's call for an immediate end to the Israeli war on Gaza, emphasizing the need for a peaceful path toward a two-state solution. Riga also recognized Jordan's relief efforts in Gaza and noted Greece's cooperation with Jordanian authorities in these endeavors.

Looking forward, Riga stated Greece's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Jordan, mentioning a forthcoming conference of Greek associations in Amman aimed at exploring opportunities for educational collaboration and attracting Jordanian students.
