House Speaker Initiates National Dialogue for Local Administration Bill Drafting

Irbid: Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Ahmad Safadi, along with Minister of Local Administration, Walid Masri, and Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul-Moneim Odat, announced the start of a national dialogue aimed at drafting the Local Administration Bill. This initiative involves engaging with the heads of Jordan's municipalities and decentralized provincial councils to gather their feedback in the coming period.

According to Jordan News Agency, the dialogue is a preparatory step for approving new legislation to facilitate upcoming municipal and provincial council elections. The announcement occurred during a session themed "Towards Development of Comprehensive Local Development and Administration," organized by Bani Obeid Municipality in northern Irbid governorate under Safadi's auspices.

Safadi highlighted the significance of establishing provincial councils in 2015 as a measure to enhance local activities and better serve citizens. This development aims to alleviate the service burden on lawmakers, allowing them to concentrate on their core legislative and oversight responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in drafting a law that involves all relevant stakeholders.

The upcoming legislation is expected to grant greater roles to provincial and municipal councils in drafting the law and considering feedback earnestly. Safadi articulated the House's commitment to aligning with Royal directives and applying this vision within constitutional frameworks. He emphasized coordination with the government to endorse legislation that promotes economic stimulation, investment, local development, job creation, and unemployment reduction.
