IEC Chief Lauds Media Role as Key Partner in Any Elections Success.

Amman: Chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Musa Maaytah, emphasized the indispensable role of media outlets in ensuring the success of elections. He highlighted their contributions in monitoring election proceedings, disseminating vital information, and educating voters throughout the electoral process. According to Jordan News Agency, Maaytah shared these insights during a meeting with representatives from audio-visual and print media. The meeting was part of the IEC's ongoing efforts to evaluate the 2024 parliamentary election experience, build upon it, and extract valuable lessons. Maaytah underscored the IEC's commitment to openness and communication with all stakeholders, advocating for the incorporation of feedback and observations concerning executive instructions used in previous elections, particularly regarding the accreditation of journalists and media personnel. He further mentioned that the IEC actively monitors media coverage related to elections, utilizing it as guidance to enhance the election process. Maaytah praised the electoral awareness demonstrated by journalists and media professionals, which in turn increased voter awareness and participation rates. Maaytah also announced plans for the IEC to collaborate with both public and private media institutions, along with the Jordan Press Association (JPA). This collaboration aims to refine procedures for accrediting journalists and media professionals and their involvement in election monitoring, all in compliance with existing legislation. Additionally, he noted the potential use of technology to further improve the electoral process and its outcomes.
