Amman: The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply announced plans to implement a series of measures aimed at strengthening the food industry sector, with a focus on opening new export markets, improving food safety documentation, and enhancing monitoring of residues.
According to Jordan News Agency, after a meeting with the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, the ministry revealed that the planned measures are based on a diagnostic gap-analysis report. These steps will involve regulating registration and licensing for production lines, conducting periodic inspections, assessing staffing needs for inspection teams, and upgrading procedures for accrediting laboratories related to the sector.
The ministry communicated to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that this meeting is part of an ongoing effort over the past two years to enhance Jordanian food products and align them with European Union market requirements. The initiative includes synchronizing local legislation with export standards, issuing prior instructions on agricultural and food traceability, holding technical workshops to identify gaps and high-potential products, and developing an inspection checklist for local food factories that incorporates core traceability requirements and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles. These efforts are intended to bolster food safety and security frameworks.
