Tehran:Iran has officially designated Britain's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as "terrorist" organizations. Additionally, the country's foreign intelligence agency, MI6, has been labeled a "hostile group," as announced by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared that this move is a response to what it describes as London's "malicious" actions, notably the UK's designation of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a "terrorist organization."
The decision by Iran was reportedly made under a resolution by Iran's Supreme National Security Council. It follows the UK's designation of the IRGC under the State Threats Act 2026 on July 13. Furthermore, Tehran has accused the UK of aiding the US-Israeli conflict against Iran by providing access to military and logistical bases.
The region has been experiencing heightened tensions since attacks by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, which led to retaliatory actions by Iran. Despite attempts at diplomatic resolution, including a memorandum signed between Washington and Tehran in June, disputes over security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz continue.
