Iran stressed today, Monday, the importance of uniting positions with Iraq in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Omar Al-Barzanji, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, met with Reza Najafi, Undersecretary of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs and International Relations, today, Monday, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Fifth Review Conference of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is taking place in The Hague. During the meeting, they discussed the relations between the two countries and ways of consolidating them.

During the meeting, according to the statement, Al-Barzanji referred to the close ties that bind the two neighboring countries, in addition to the distinguished historical and social relations, which makes the positions of the two countries very close on most international issues.

For his part, the Iranian Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the depth of relations with Iraq, stressing the importance of unifying positions in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, referring to the issue of climate change and its impact on the two neighboring countries, adding that his country will host, in September, a ministerial meeting on climate change and its negative effects on climate change, Agriculture and population.”
