Irbid: The Irbid Qasabah Education Directorate has successfully completed a series of construction, maintenance, and classroom expansion projects across the district's schools as part of its annual plan to enhance the education system and improve the school environment. Director Raad Khasawneh confirmed that technical teams from the Buildings Department have finalized scheduled and comprehensive maintenance works at 80 schools.
According to Jordan News Agency, the completed works included upgrading electrical networks, maintaining sanitation facilities and classrooms, supplying 73 air-conditioning units to various schools, and paving schoolyards with asphalt mixtures. These efforts aim to ensure a safe and sustainable learning environment for students and teaching staff.
Khasawneh noted significant progress in new school building projects, with completion rates at Jameela Bouazza Basic School for Girls and the school on Al-Hasan Ibn Al-Haytham School's grounds reaching about 70 percent. Additionally, construction has begun on Amneh Bint Wahb School, situated on shared land with Ibn Zaidoun Basic School for Boys.
These projects are part of the Ministry of Education's strategy to transition from rented buildings to model school facilities owned by the ministry. Khasawneh highlighted that Marou Basic School for Boys, implemented under Royal initiatives, is nearing completion with an 85 percent achievement rate.
Further developments include the completion of 12 classrooms at Al-Zarnouji Comprehensive School and classroom expansions at Shafiq Arshidat and Hadiqat Tunis schools to accommodate the growing student population.
Community cooperation has also been emphasized, with initiatives conducted alongside the Greater Irbid Municipality and the Environmental Protection Directorate to implement environmental and cleanliness campaigns promoting sustainability concepts. The "Hand in Hand for Safe Streets" project, in partnership with URBAN Organization, was implemented at Rufaidah Al-Aslamiyah Basic School to improve traffic regulation and reduce pedestrian accidents near school gates.
Khasawneh also announced preparations to establish the Educational Technology and Information Department and the Civil Service Bureau as accredited centers for conducting computerized General Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) examinations. This initiative aims to enhance assessment tools and strengthen the technical infrastructure of the education process.
