Hebron:Israeli authorities have issued a total of 9,518 demolition or stop-work notices to Palestinian structures in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of 2015, as reported by a Palestinian government commission.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission stated that these notices, which have halted construction, have left properties under threat. This has disrupted the lives of families and limited the ability of communities to build homes, expand services, and sustain livelihoods.
The report, sourced from Anadolu, detailed that 9,174 notices were documented between 2015 and 2025, with an additional 344 notices in the first nine months of 2026. The commission also noted that its figures might not encompass every notice issued by Israeli authorities, as the tally was based on documented cases by the commission and partner legal organizations, including the Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Center and the Society of St. Yves.
Hebron was reported to have the highest number of notices, totaling 2,697, followed by Bethlehem with 1,310, Ramallah and al-Bireh with 1,118, and Jerusalem with 929. The peak annual total was recorded in 2023, with 1,333 notices compared to 701 in 2015.
Additionally, data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) indicated that nearly 12,000 structures were demolished during the same period, including 1,698 that were funded by donors. The demolitions displaced over 18,000 Palestinians and affected approximately 843,000 individuals. These demolitions were recorded by the UN office as being carried out for reasons such as the lack of Israeli-issued building permits, as punitive measures, or during military operations.
