Israeli Forces Raid Birzeit University, Injuring 11 Palestinians

Ramallah: Eleven Palestinians were wounded Tuesday when Israeli forces raided Birzeit University north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, according to medical and local sources.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, the Health Ministry reported that 11 individuals were taken to the Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah following the Israeli assault on the university. The injuries included three from live fire, three from shrapnel, and five cases of tear gas inhalation.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed that three students were shot in the legs and required hospitalization for treatment.

Local sources detailed that Israeli forces entered the Birzeit University campus, forcibly accessing facilities by breaking doors, and utilizing live fire, sound grenades, and tear gas within the grounds, causing panic among students and staff.

The raid took place after a student event in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and was timed with preparations for the screening of 'Hind Rajab', a film documenting the death of a five-year-old during the Gaza war, as shared by the sources.

Israeli forces entered the campus shortly before the film screening, which was planned as part of student-led activities, thereby disrupting the event, the sources explained.

Event organizers stated that the film intended to shed light on Israeli actions against civilians, especially children, highlighting violations, but the raid halted the planned screening.

Historically, Israeli forces have conducted raids at the university, detaining students and seizing property.

Since October 2023, Israeli forces and illegal settlers have been responsible for the deaths of at least 1,102 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, injuring nearly 11,000, and detaining approximately 21,000, as per Palestinian statistics.

In a significant ruling last July, the International Court of Justice declared the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, advocating for the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
