Tel Aviv: Israeli security announced the arrest of a 16-year-old on suspicion of engaging in espionage activities for Iran in exchange for payment.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli police and domestic security service, Shin Bet, released a joint statement revealing that the minor had been in contact for several months with Iranian operatives online. The suspect was allegedly instructed to purchase a new mobile phone and install a specific app for communication purposes.
The statement further claimed that the minor executed several tasks under the direction of Iranian handlers, which included photographing sites and printing posters. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed.
There has been no immediate response from Iran regarding the Israeli claims. In recent years, both countries have frequently announced the dismantling of spy networks against a backdrop of ongoing rivalry.
