Secretary-General of Jordan’s Judicial Council (JJC) and its spokesperson, Ali Musimi, said 2021 constituted a challenge for the judicial authority to recover from Covid-19 pandemic-induced effects.
Speaking at a press conference, held on Sunday to release Jordanian courts’ annual report for 2021, he said JJC had completed 94% of the recommendations of Royal Committee for Developing the Judiciary and Enhancing the Rule of Law.
Courts received a total of 447,194 cases during the past year and continued litigation measures for 94,732 others from a year earlier, he said.
To date, some 458,658 cases were fully litigated, bringing the total completion rate to 86.6%, while 83,268 lawsuits still await rulings, he noted.
These figures show that courts have made an achievement at the level of the number of litigated cases, marking a 12% drop from 2020, he said, adding that adjudication period recorded an average 55 days, down by 15%, compared to 2020, he said.
Meanwhile, verdict-related quality index rose by 1% in 2021, as the rate of sentences issued by Court of Cassation and other higher tribunals in support of lower courts’ rulings reached 65%, he pointed out.
