Amman: The Jordanian National Centre for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases Control (JCDC) has organized a workshop aimed at developing a national strategy for community protection during health emergencies, targeting a comprehensive vision for safeguarding communities across Jordan. According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and supported by international bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and Germany's Institute Robert Koch. It saw participation from various sectors, including public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and international organizations. JCDC President Adel Bilbeisi emphasized the critical need for a community protection strategy to enhance Jordan's capabilities in managing crises and health emergencies, and to foster a resilient society. Bilbeisi highlighted the significance of national efforts in developing local and community capacities, which are crucial for enhancing the country's ability to ad dress, detect, and respond to health emergencies. He also underscored the importance of community participation, workforce skill enhancement, and the integration of roles with primary health care systems. Bilbeisi further asserted that community protection is rooted in prevention, awareness, and rapid response capability development. Recent global studies and events have shown that societies with effective community protection programs benefit from a high level of health education. Riad Shayyab, Director of the Health Ministry's Primary Health Care Department, explained the necessity of involving communities at all stages of strategic plan development. This includes initial issue monitoring, planning, setting priorities, and subsequently following up and evaluating these plans.
