The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Thursday signed an agreement to implement energy conservation projects worth JD1.5 million within the framework of the first phase of the energy saving program for Aqaba hotels.

The agreement, which is part of government’s plans to support Aqaba hotels, was signed by JREEEF Chairman / Minister of Energy, Saleh Kharabsheh, and ASEZA head, Nayef Bakheet.

During the signing ceremony, financial contributions of the various sides were determined to implement the project, which will be shared by JREEEF and ASEZA by 50% each.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will provide a grant of JD100,000 to carry out energy audit studies for beneficiary hotels and offer logistical and technical support for the project’s implementation , in partnership with JREEEF.

Kharabsheh, in press remarks following the agreement signing, stressed the importance of these energy-efficiency programs in achieving “significant” saving rates in energy consumption for the targeted facilities and increasing their competitiveness.

These programs also improve the services quality, which is a key objective of the ministry’s JREEEF to achieve the national goals in this regard, set in the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Jordan
