Jordan Allocates JD500,000 to Develop Umm al-Jimal Archaeological Site

Mafraq: The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has earmarked JD500,000 for the rehabilitation and development of the Umm el-Jimal archaeological site, according to Amjad Maaytah, Director of Tourism in Mafraq. Speaking on Saturday, Maaytah said the funds will be used to upgrade the historic site and surrounding areas, in addition to establishing a fully equipped visitor center to enhance the tourist experience.

According to Jordan News Agency, Maaytah noted that the Mafraq Governorate Council is a partner in the ongoing effort to inscribe Umm el-Jimal on the World Heritage List as part of a broader strategy to promote development and empowerment. The council allocated JD25,000 in last year's budget to support cultural activities and events at the site.

Maaytah emphasized that all stakeholders, including official institutions, youth groups, local organizations, and the wider community, are working together to promote and empower the site in ways that contribute to local development and create employment opportunities for residents.
