Jordan and Algeria Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Amman:The Senate's Jordanian-Algerian Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee held a meeting with Algerian Ambassador to Jordan Mohamed Zergot to explore ways to enhance their bilateral relations and expand cooperation in various fields. According to Jordan News Agency, committee chair Zuhair Abu Faris highlighted the historical ties between Jordan and Algeria and emphasized the importance of recent developments to serve their common interests. He praised King Abdullah II's recent visit to Algeria as a pivotal moment for opening new avenues of economic, trade, cultural, and investment cooperation. Abu Faris also addressed regional developments, reiterating Jordan's position on the Palestinian cause, as outlined in the King's speech at the UN General Assembly. He expressed Jordan's support for Palestinian rights, its rejection of forced displacement, and a commitment to a two-state solution with an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Furthermore, Abu Faris stressed the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, expressing gratitude to Algeria for its ongoing support. In response, Ambassador Zergot reaffirmed Algeria's dedication to advancing political, economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation with Jordan. He commended King Abdullah II's leadership in promoting regional stability and aligned Algeria's stance with Jordan's on Palestinian rights, the end of the occupation, and the rejection of forced displacement.
