Amman: Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Hisham Haisa, and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Nabil Assaf, convened on Wednesday to deliberate on enhancing cooperation for promoting sustainable development and addressing environmental and climate challenges in the Jordan Valley. According to Jordan News Agency, Haisa emphasized the critical importance of partnering with FAO, noting its pivotal role in supporting sustainable development initiatives. He highlighted the primary objectives as improving water resource management, promoting sustainable agriculture, and bolstering food security through innovative strategies designed to increase agricultural productivity and infrastructure sustainability. Haisa also highlighted the necessity of joint efforts to develop projects that improve water quality and facilitate its reuse, thereby enhancing the agricultural sector's efficiency and strengthening the local economy. Assaf praised the Jordan Valley Authority's efforts in managing natural resources and reaffirmed FAO's commitment to supporting agricultural development and strengthening food systems in Jordan. He expressed the organization's readiness to provide technical support and advice on improving agricultural water governance and enhancing the resilience of food systems in response to climate change. According to a statement from the Authority, the meeting further addressed mechanisms for implementing joint projects that focus on improving water management, supporting farmers, and increasing local communities' adaptability to climate change. The discussions also included plans to organize workshops and training sessions aimed at building local talents and enhancing development policies in the Jordan Valley. A field visit to local farms was conducted to assess the challenges faced by farmers and explore sustainable solutions for enhancing agricultural productivity and food security.
