Amman: The Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) and the Georgian Embassy in Amman have reached an agreement to establish a joint business council aimed at bolstering economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Jordan and Georgia. This development marks a strategic effort to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance economic ties.

According to Jordan News Agency, the decision was announced during a meeting held on Wednesday, where Hamdi Tabbaa, Chairperson of the JBA, stressed the necessity of enhancing trade and investment ties between the two countries. He highlighted the current modest volume of trade exchanges and called for building economic partnerships in vital sectors such as tourism, agriculture, health, energy, and shipping. Tabbaa also pointed out the significant role the private sector plays in capitalizing on economic opportunities.

Georgian Ambassador Archil Dzuliashvili expressed Georgia's commitment to increasing investments, especially in the pharmaceutical, agricultural, education, shipping, and tourism industries. He asserted that the establishment of the business council would strengthen economic relations and promote collaboration between private sector institutions from both nations.

Trade exchange between Jordan and Georgia amounted to approximately $3 million in 2023, a decrease from $8 million in 2022, indicating a need for renewed efforts in fostering economic engagement.
