Amman: The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, alongside several other countries and world organizations, has expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's approval of two draft laws aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and illegal settlements.
According to Jordan News Agency, a joint statement was issued by the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Trkiye, the Republic of Djibouti, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of The Gambia, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, the State of Libya, Malaysia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. These entities have collectively denounced the Israeli actions as violations of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which criticizes all Israeli attempts to change the demographic composition and status of the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem.
The joint statement also referenced the advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice, which declared the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land as illegal and invalidated settlement construction and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank. It reaffirmed that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories.
In contrast, the statement welcomed the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice dated 22 October 2025, related to Israel's obligations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The Court emphasized Israel's duty under international humanitarian law to ensure that the inhabitants of the OPT, including Gaza, receive essential daily supplies and to facilitate relief efforts through the United Nations and its entities, notably the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The International Court of Justice further confirmed Israel's obligation to respect the prohibition on using starvation as a weapon, highlighted Israel's blockade of aid into the Gaza Strip, and reiterated the prohibition of mass forcible transfer and deportation, including imposing unbearable living conditions.
The Court also reiterated the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and independent statehood, noting that Israel's territorial claims over East Jerusalem have been deemed "null and void" by the Security Council. This includes the "Law to Cease UNRWA Operations in the Territory of the State of Israel," which claims applicability to East Jerusalem.
The joint statement cautioned against Israel's continued unilateral and illegal actions and urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities. It called for compelling Israel to stop its escalating and unlawful measures in the occupied Palestinian territory and to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This, they noted, is the only path toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures regional security and stability.
