Amman: Malaysian Ambassador to Amman, Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, emphasized the importance of bolstering cooperation between Jordan and Malaysia in the realm of human development and knowledge exchange, highlighting the framework of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
According to Jordan News Agency, the ambassador's comments were made during a discussion session hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in Amman. This session focused on the MTCP courses and was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Planning and International Cooperation, program graduates, and members of the Malaysian University Alumni Association in Jordan.
The MTCP, established in 1980, is Malaysia's commitment to South-South Cooperation, aiming to share its developmental experiences with other developing nations. The program is founded on the principle that a country's development is reliant on the quality of its human capital and resources. It offers various forms of support, including training, study visits, and practical attachments, to enhance human resources.
Ambassador Abdul Rahman highlighted that annually, MTCP collaborates with leading training institutions to provide capacity-building programs in key development areas. Since its inception, the program has benefited over 34,000 participants from 144 countries. A strategic shift occurred in 2010 when MTCP was placed under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on developing countries of strategic interest and fostering public-private partnerships.
The MTCP prioritizes several sectors, including Professional Services, Management, Economic and Trade, and Technology. Jordan is a recipient of the program, with numerous officials having participated in training courses covering areas like public administration and Islamic finance. Feedback from participants indicates that these programs equip them with essential skills for their professional roles.
Ambassador Abdul Rahman expressed his hope for increased Jordanian participation in future MTCP programs, aiming for tailored offerings that meet Jordan's specific needs. He concluded with aspirations for the session to mark the beginning of stronger networking between both nations.
