Amman: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff and Jordanian authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on the fourth review of the economic reform program under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the first review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) arrangement.
According to Jordan News Agency, an IMF staff team, led by C©sar Serra, visited Amman from September 28 to October 7, 2025. The discussions focused on the EFF, an economic reform program approved by the IMF's Executive Board on January 10, 2024. The mission also assessed the Reform Measures under the RSF arrangement approved on June 25, 2025.
Serra announced that despite a challenging external environment, Jordan's program performance remains strong. All quantitative performance criteria and all but one structural benchmark for the fourth review were met. The agreement requires approval by the IMF's management and Executive Board, potentially making SDR 97.784 million (about US$130 million) available from the EFF. Additionally, completion of the first RSF review could make SDR 79.182 million (about US$114 million) available.
Jordan's economy has shown resilience with a growth rate of 2.7 percent in the first half of 2025. The current account deficit is expected to narrow, supported by higher tourism and export receipts, while inflation remains stable at around 2 percent. The banking sector continues to demonstrate soundness with ample liquidity.
The authorities are working towards fiscal consolidation to place public debt on a steady downward path, aiming to reduce it to 80 percent of GDP by 2028. Structural reforms are being intensified to boost growth and job creation, focusing on improving the business environment and enhancing the social safety net.
Progress has been noted in addressing long-term vulnerabilities in Jordan's water and electricity sectors and in enhancing its capacity to handle health emergencies. The staff team expressed gratitude for the constructive discussions held with key Jordanian officials, including Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan and other senior government figures.
