Amman: Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khraisat, and Secretary General of the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS-L), Dr. Shadi Abdullah, have engaged in discussions to explore joint cooperation in the scientific, agricultural, and environmental fields. The meeting focused on collaborative efforts to tackle environmental and climate-related challenges affecting the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Khraisat emphasized the critical need for regional cooperation to address these challenges. He highlighted the importance of exchanging scientific expertise and developing monitoring and research programs as essential measures to enhance institutional capacities in responding to crises such as drought, forest fires, and climate change.
The discussions included potential cooperation in establishing early warning systems for forest fires and developing advanced monitoring systems to curtail the spread of fires and improve the readiness of authorities for rapid responses. Additionally, the meeting addressed the importance of remote sensing collaboration to support studies on natural resources and to enhance weather and climate analysis and forecasting tools, which are crucial for the agricultural sector.
Both parties explored partnership opportunities in agricultural, water, and environmental research. The focus was on improving water resource management, enhancing agricultural production, preserving ecosystems, and initiating joint research projects that align with common interests and bolster food security efforts in the region.
Dr. Abdullah reiterated CNRS-L's dedication to strengthening cooperation with Jordanian institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing regional collaboration in these critical fields.
