Rabat: Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni and his Moroccan counterpart Abdellatif Ouahbi have formalized an agreement for the extradition of fugitives, marking a significant step in the legal and judicial cooperation between Jordan and Morocco to combat crime.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement mandates cooperation between the two nations in extraditing individuals who are either wanted for prosecution or are required to serve a custodial sentence imposed by the judicial authorities of the other party. This will be in line with the applicable national legislation and the legal regulations currently in force in both countries.
Commenting on the agreement, signed in Rabat, Talhouni highlighted the historical ties between Jordan and Morocco and described the agreement as a pivotal milestone in their legal and judicial cooperation. He emphasized that this agreement provides a more efficient legal framework for regulating extradition procedures, aiding in achieving justice, combating crime, and reducing impunity. Talhouni added that it reflects the distinguished level of relations between the two countries and their commitment to expanding judicial cooperation and exchanging expertise and data.
Talhouni also remarked on the necessity of global judicial cooperation due to the rapid evolution and diversification of crime, stressing the importance of clear legal frameworks that govern inter-country cooperation, ensuring procedure effectiveness while respecting the rule of law and established legal guarantees.
Ouahbi echoed these sentiments, highlighting the agreement's role in enhancing judicial cooperation between Jordan and Morocco, describing it as "a qualitative addition to bilateral agreements governing legal and judicial cooperation."
