Jordan and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Ties with Memorandum in Food and Drug Sectors

Amman: Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Nizar Mheidat and CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) Hisham Jadhei have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in the food and pharmaceutical sectors.

According to Jordan News Agency, the memorandum was signed during a visit by a Saudi delegation to the JFDA, focusing on advancing collaboration in food, drug, and medical supplies industries between the two countries.

Mheidat described the memorandum as a strategic step towards reinforcing bilateral relations and emphasized the need for swift implementation to boost trade exchange, foster integration, and support economic interests. The discussions during the visit centered on ensuring the safety and efficacy of food products and medicines, sharing expertise in medicine pricing, and establishing electronic connectivity. Ongoing meetings and exchange of information were highlighted as key components.

JFDA's efforts in food control and inspection were outlined, showcasing their commitment to monitoring health practices, accrediting laboratories, and utilizing advanced technology for accurate results. Plans to develop laboratories, enhance international accreditation, and activate tracking systems for food products were also discussed, with a focus on comprehensive risk assessment systems for imports and strengthening regional partnerships.

Jadhei highlighted the importance of improving food and drug safety, noting its direct impact on quality of life and public health. He pointed out that this objective is central to the cooperation between JFDA and SFDA. The SFDA, established in 2003, has positioned itself as a leading regulatory authority in the region.

The signing ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation (JSMO) Abeer Zuhair, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Mohammed Hyari, and Acting Charg© d'Affaires of the Saudi Embassy Minister Plenipotentiary Mohammed Mounes.
