Amman: The Jordan Customs Department announced an extension of working hours for specialized staff at the Cases Directorate, ensuring the completion of transactions for clients looking to benefit from a Cabinet decision granting exemptions from fines related to customs cases.
According to Jordan News Agency, customs officials have designated the upcoming Saturday as an official working day for the Cases Directorate. This move aims to complete and process transactions before the remaining period of the exemption expires, with officials emphasizing that there will be no further extension of these decisions.
Previously, Jordan Customs urged citizens, traders, and investors with customs cases and violations recorded before January 1, 2025, to utilize the remaining period to implement the Cabinet decisions on exempting fines. These exemptions, applicable to cases before January 1, 2025, are set to end on December 31, 2025. The department reminded stakeholders of the importance of finalizing pending cases and concluding settlements to fully benefit from the decision.
The Cabinet's decision, which continues previous initiatives to exempt fines on cases at rates of 60 percent and 90 percent, extends the application of Decision No. 454 until December 31, 2025. This includes a full exemption from administrative collection expenses upon payment of the principal amount due, without affecting any rights of case holders with the department.
The department encouraged citizens, traders, and investors to act promptly in benefiting from the decision. The Economic Modernization and Development Committee recommended this initiative to encourage investment and facilitate procedures for investors and traders. Under the decision, fines on eligible cases are exempt at a rate of 60 percent for cases without payable customs duties or taxes and 90 percent for those with payable duties and taxes, provided settlements are completed by December 31, 2025.
