Vienna: Jordan was unanimously elected on Friday as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for a two-year term (2025-2027), during the IAEA's General Conference currently being held in Vienna.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fuad Majali, stated that the Kingdom's election reflects its global position and confirms the international community's confidence in its capacity to contribute to strengthening the disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Majali reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to supporting the IAEA's work by continuing cooperation with international partners to ensure full compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and working to achieve the treaty's universality, mainly in the Middle East region.

Majali added that this effort will be fulfilled by establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone and other weapons of mass destruction, and subjecting all nuclear facilities in the region to the IAEA's comprehensive safeguards system.
