Baku:Jordan has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2027-2029 term, receiving 171 votes. This election underscores Jordan's international standing and its diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting human rights and adherence to international law, as stated by National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) Commissioner-General Jamal Shamayleh.
According to Jordan News Agency, Shamayleh credited this achievement to Jordan's political stances and the diplomatic efforts spearheaded by His Majesty King Abdullah II, particularly in advocating for human rights and international law.
He emphasized that Jordan's election is indicative of its commitment to justice, human dignity, and its ongoing role in bolstering the international human rights framework and multilateral cooperation.
Shamayleh also pointed to Jordan's active participation in global affairs, describing its positions as consistent, balanced, and credible. He highlighted His Majesty's address to the United Nations General Assembly, where the King called for adherence to international law, rejection of injustice and double standards, and support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially their rights to freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
Moreover, Shamayleh expressed the NCHR's appreciation for Jordan's election, viewing it as a testament to international confidence in the Kingdom's positions and efforts. He hoped that Jordan's membership would further enhance international cooperation to protect human rights, uphold human dignity, and promote justice, equality, and non-discrimination, in alignment with the Kingdom's dedication to fundamental rights and freedoms.
