Jordan, Germany Sign Agreements to Enhance Water and Sanitation Sector.

Amman: The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the KfW Development Bank have signed two agreements to bolster Jordan's water and sanitation sector. The agreements, finalized on Sunday, aim to provide significant funding and support to improve infrastructure and services in these crucial areas. According to Jordan News Agency, the first agreement involves the German government providing pound 21.5 million through the KfW Development Bank. This funding is designated for the third stage of outcome-based financing for Jordan's water sector. The financial assistance is targeted at wastewater treatment plants in northern Jordan, with a focus on enhancing operations, maintenance, and overall cost-effectiveness of the sanitation infrastructure. The second agreement includes a contribution of pound 15 million from Germany to support the National Water Carrier, specifically the Aqaba - Amman Desalination and Water Transport project. This contribution increases the total financial support for the pr oject to pound 80 million, aimed at addressing Jordan's water transport and supply challenges. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Tuqan highlighted Germany's role as Jordan's most important development partner, particularly in the water and sanitation sectors. German Ambassador in Amman, Bernhard Kampmann, acknowledged the challenges Jordan faces, especially concerning water. He noted that the funding agreement is a continuation of the collaborative efforts with Jordanian authorities to meet the country's water needs.
