Amman: Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Jihad Mahameed, inaugurated a regional workshop on water accounting for improved agricultural water allocation at the pilot level in the Arab region. The event was held in the presence of Nabil Assaf, representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Kamel Amer, representing the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and the joint ministerial meeting secretariat; and Anna Rosenthal, Director of Development and International Cooperation at the Swedish Embassy.
According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop brings together national team members from Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Tunisia. It focuses on the use of water accounting tools to enhance the distribution and allocation of irrigation water in selected pilot areas across the participating countries. The methodology incorporates hydrological modeling and satellite imagery to improve irrigation efficiency and ensure equitable water distribution across agricultural crops.
