Paris: The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) has urged France and the European Union to recognize the State of Palestine and to suspend their agreements with Israel. The organization emphasized the need for immediate action in response to the current situation.
According to Anadolu Agency, the CFCM released a statement on Tuesday calling for France and the EU to take "concrete and courageous measures" in light of what it describes as acts of "barbarity." The organization is advocating for the recognition of the State of Palestine "without delay" and is calling for the suspension of agreements with Israel. Additionally, they recommend implementing economic and diplomatic sanctions as a means to exert pressure on an Israeli government that they accuse of pursuing a policy of colonization and deportation.
The CFCM has pointed out that remaining silent is tantamount to complicity and warned that history will judge those who choose to stay silent. The organization further alleged that Israel's blockade on aid is part of a "genocidal plan" aimed at the destruction of Gaza, and criticized the world's major powers for their "chilling silence" on the matter.
The statement also highlighted the distressing images of children suffering due to the blockade, stating they will become a lasting reminder of a world that failed to act. The CFCM criticized what it sees as the inconsistency in the Western response, noting strong mobilization for Ukraine while remaining passive regarding the situation in Palestine.
Lastly, the organization expressed disappointment, saying that the Muslims of France, alongside other justice-seeking citizens, will remember what it terms as a betrayal of France's fundamental values, international commitments, humanitarian law, children's rights, press freedom, and universal principles enshrined in both the French Constitution and United Nations founding texts.
