Jordan, Palestine Discuss Cooperation on Social Protection, Preparations for Palestinian Child Conference

Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa met with her Palestinian counterpart, Samah Hamad, on Wednesday to discuss bilateral cooperation in various joint efforts and preparations for the upcoming Palestinian Child Conference, which Jordan will host next month, following a joint invitation from Palestine and the Arab League. Bani Mustafa reaffirmed Jordan's steadfast position, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, regarding the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip. She underscored Jordan's consistent call for an immediate cessation of the violence and for allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, noting that this aligns with Jordan's diplomatic efforts rooted in its commitment to the Palestinians. Bani Mustafa highlighted the services provided by the ministry and the National Aid Fund, including achievements in implementing Jordan's national social protection strategy and best practices aimed at addressing the needs of beneficiary families targeted by the fund' s programs. She noted that the fund's support now extends beyond cash assistance, covering health insurance, energy services, emergency aid, graduation and economic empowerment programs, and productive family initiatives. The minister emphasized that these efforts aim to transition families from reliance on aid to becoming self-sufficient. Bani Mustafa also outlined Jordan's progress in expanding the scope of social protection services, stating, "We are reviewing the National Social Protection Strategy and aligning it with the Kingdom's modernization visions, particularly economic modernization, through five key initiatives, 10 priorities, and more than 31 projects." For her part, Minister Hamad praised Jordan's leadership and people for their continuous support for the Palestinian cause, particularly during the current challenges faced by the people of Gaza and the West Bank. She expressed gratitude for Jordan's humanitarian and medical aid and the initiative to support amputees in Gaza, overseen by the R oyal Medical Services. Hamad also provided an overview of social protection programs in the West Bank and Gaza, such as the unified national registry and the life-saving program, which provides financial support to targeted families. She highlighted the importance of the visit in gaining insight into Jordan's social protection initiatives and announced plans for a three-day training workshop. Following the meeting, Bani Mustafa led the Palestinian delegation and World Food Program team on a tour of the National Aid Fund. The visit included briefings on the fund's digital maps department and the support and assistance center, where the delegation was introduced to the mechanisms in place for providing services to citizens.
