Dubai: Jordan took part in the International Conference on Climate Change and Human Health Impacts, which commenced in Dubai, with Dr. Rida Khawaldeh, Director of the Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research (HMCSR), representing the nation. Dr. Khawaldeh underlined the critical need for regional and international cooperation to combat the escalating climate crises that threaten both public health and ecological stability.
According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Khawaldeh highlighted how climate change exacerbates natural disasters, such as floods and droughts, which in turn lead to health impacts by increasing the spread of diseases and pandemics, and create shortages in essential resources like water and food. He commended the significant contributions of international organizations and governments, especially the Japanese government and the United Nations Population Fund, in aiding developing nations through technical and financial support to mitigate climate impacts.
Dr. Khawaldeh, who also serves as the Executive Secretary of the Association of Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA), emphasized that the Parliamentary Forum for Population and Development is a vital venue for fostering dialogue among lawmakers and experts. This forum aims to formulate environmental and health policies and enact legislation that supports sustainable development and safeguards vulnerable populations from the effects of climate change.
The conference included numerous discussions and presentations focusing on advancing clean energy, enhancing health infrastructure, and adapting to emerging environmental challenges. Participants urged for strengthened international cooperation and the empowerment of local communities to effectively address climate issues and achieve sustainable development.
