Beirut: Lebanese President Michel Aoun has reiterated Lebanon's dedication to ensuring Israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied southern territories, in line with the agreement reached on November 27. The president emphasized this commitment in a statement released by the Lebanese presidency, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by Israel's actions in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, President Aoun criticized Israel for not fulfilling its withdrawal promises, arguing that this failure contradicts the commitments made during the negotiations that led to the agreement. He expressed concern that continued tensions in the border villages are preventing displaced residents from returning and obstructing reconstruction efforts in areas that suffered destruction due to Israeli aggression.
The statement was issued against the backdrop of renewed Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon, which have included incursions into several towns. Reports indicate that Israeli forces have advanced from Maroun al-Ras towards the outskirts of Bint Jbeil, and from Taybeh towards Adshit al-Qusayr. These movements have been accompanied by the burning and destruction of homes and facilities, further exacerbating the situation.
A Lebanese security source disclosed to Petra's correspondent in Beirut that Israeli forces have been targeting vehicles, equipment, and facilities belonging to the Ward Company, associated with the Litani Project, following their incursion into the Tal Nahas area. In response, an armoured unit from the Lebanese army has entered the outskirts of Kfar Hamam in the Arqoub region, working in coordination with UN peacekeeping forces to address the unfolding situation.
