Amman: Jordan maintains 'full' efforts to help Palestinian refugees: The Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA), Rafiq Kharfan, emphasized Jordan's unwavering commitment to supporting Palestinian refugees and their right to return, stating that this right is both inalienable and historically adequate.
According to Jordan News Agency, Kharfan addressed the international community on World Refugee Day, urging attention to the plight of over 9 million Palestinian refugees displaced for 77 years. He criticized the global community for neglecting UN resolutions that support Palestinian refugees' rights.
Kharfan highlighted the ongoing regional instability, noting that Palestine endures increasing Israeli violations. He pointed to Israeli settler projects and military actions in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, which threaten the symbolism of refugee camps that stand for loyalty to the Palestinian cause.
He also described the dire situation in Gaza, which has faced severe challenges due to an Israeli war lasting nearly twenty months. Kharfan reaffirmed Jordan's steadfast opposition to Israeli efforts that undermine Palestinian self-determination and the right of return for refugees.
Jordan, under Hashemite leadership, remains resolute in its stance on the Palestinian issue. Kharfan called for comprehensive support for the 13 Palestinian refugee camps within Jordan, stressing the importance of UNRWA's role in providing essential services to refugees.
Kharfan condemned Israeli attacks on UNRWA, which aim to delegitimize the organization by labeling it as a terrorist entity and cutting its funding. Jordan's efforts continue to ensure that UNRWA can operate unhindered, reflecting the ongoing commitment to the Palestinian refugee issue.
