Amman: Jordan Chamber of Industry President Fathi Al-Jaghbir on Saturday emphasized the importance of fortifying economic relations between Jordan and Saudi Arabia. He highlighted that such efforts would foster growth in both nations, reflecting their strong political ties and deep-rooted social connections, while maximizing the advantages of existing free trade agreements.
According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting with a delegation from the Tabuk Chamber of Commerce, Al-Jaghbir underscored the need for Arab economic relations to be founded on mutual interests. He noted that the current bilateral trade is limited to a narrow range of goods, which does not represent the industrial variety in either country. Al-Jaghbir also pointed out that Jordan imports numerous raw materials from Saudi Arabia for its industries, especially in the plastics sector, which paves the way for increased industrial integration.
Nather bin Al-Hassan Al-Hakami, head of the Industrial Committee at the Tabuk Chamber, mentioned that Tabuk’s geographical proximity to the Jordanian border makes it an ideal location for establishing logistics-based industries that could serve both countries. He also highlighted the potential advantages of utilizing Aqaba Port as a maritime gateway for importing raw materials and exporting finished products.
The discussions between the two sides covered various issues and proposals aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in economic and investment fields. They reached an agreement to organize a visit by a Jordanian industrial delegation to Tabuk to further the discussions.
As part of the visit, the Amman Chamber arranged for the Saudi delegation to tour the Saudi-Jordanian Industrial Development Company (Jordina). During the tour, Company Director Mohammad Al-Okdeh provided an overview of Jordina’s products. The delegation expressed admiration for the advancement of Jordan’s industrial sector and acknowledged Jordina’s role in empowering local talent and achieving success in food industries.
