Tunis: The 26th edition of the Carthage Theatre Days festival kicked off at the City of Culture in Tunis, with Jordan taking part in the official competition by presenting two plays.
According to Jordan News Agency, the two Jordanian entries are "The Shelter," directed by Sawsan Darouze, and "Hammam Al-Hana," directed by Hisham Sweidan. These plays are featured in the Arab and African performances section of the festival, which highlights theatrical works from across the region.
The festival, which continues until November 29, features a total of 125 performances from 32 countries. Out of these, 12 productions were chosen by the jury to compete in the official competition, showcasing a variety of theatrical talents.
In the Arab and African performances section, "Hammam Al-Hana" stands alongside five other plays. Additionally, the World Theatre section presents 15 plays, complemented by performances from correctional institutions and productions designed for children.
The intellectual programme of the festival includes workshops on directing, theatre criticism, and the core principle of "action" in theatrical performance, examining its physical, psychological, and verbal dimensions. Other workshops focus on improvisation and the process of bringing scripts to life on stage.
For the first time, the festival will host the International Theatre Forum from November 24 to 26, themed "The Theatre Artist: His Time and Works." This new addition aims to foster global dialogue among theatre professionals.
The opening ceremony featured a performance of "King Lear," starring Yehia El-Fakharany, directed by Shady Srour, and produced by the Egyptian National Theatre, further enriching the festival's diverse offerings.
