Amman: Transport Minister, Nidal Qatamin, and head of the Association of Workers in Land Transportation and Mechanics, Mahmoud Maaytah, held discussions on Saturday focusing on the conditions of drivers and improving the work environment to ensure the sustainability of the sector and provide a decent living for its workers.
According to Jordan News Agency, the minister was informed about the challenges faced by drivers, especially those in category 6 (heavy bus drivers), including professional and financial burdens that necessitate "practical and collaborative" solutions. The meeting aimed at addressing these issues to enhance the working conditions and ensure the long-term viability of the transportation sector.
Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Riyad Kharabsheh, was also present during the meeting. Qatamin emphasized the importance of incorporating drivers, including those operating yellow cab taxis, into the social security system. This integration is expected to enhance social protection for these groups, providing them with greater security and stability.
Qatamin stated that the ministry is committed to working with various partners to tackle these challenges and create a supportive environment for drivers and transport workers. This collaboration aims to develop the transportation sector further and enhance its role in serving the citizens and boosting the national economy.
