Beirut: The Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ) has been appointed to the presidency of the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) Advisory Board following a meeting held in Beirut, which saw significant participation from representatives of Arab banks.
According to Jordan News Agency, the decision to elect Jordan reflects the prominent role of the ABJ at both local and regional levels, as noted by UAB Secretary-General Wissam Fattouh. He emphasized the importance of the board as an advisory entity that aims to foster consultation and the exchange of expertise among national associations. This collaboration is expected to help unify positions and contribute to a shared vision on regional and international banking issues.
ABJ CEO Maher Al-Mahrouq highlighted that Jordan's election is a testament to the esteemed reputation and standing of its national banking system. He credited this achievement to the robust role played by the ABJ, which is recognized for its expertise and history in the banking sector at both regional and international levels.
The advisory body is set to undertake crucial tasks, including enhancing coordination and consultation among Arab banking entities. It aims to strengthen Arab cooperation in addressing global banking and financial challenges and to provide a platform for Arab banks to have a voice in international forums through the UAB.
