Amman: Jordan Television aired a groundbreaking report this evening on a covert cell involved in the illegal manufacturing of rockets within the country. The cell, which began its operations in 2021, was dismantled by the General Intelligence Department (GID) in February 2025.
According to Jordan News Agency, the televised report detailed that the cell, comprising three principal operatives, had aimed to undermine Jordan's national security. The plot was initiated by Ibrahim Mohammad, an influential figure associated with the unlicensed Muslim Brotherhood group. Ibrahim is currently facing trial before the State Security Court for charges related to the transportation and storage of approximately 30kg of high explosives including TNT, C4, and SEMTEX-H.
The report revealed that Ibrahim masterminded the plan, orchestrating a visit for two cell members, Abdullah Hisham and Muath Al Ghanem, to Lebanon. This trip aimed to establish contact with the organisation's lead member in Beirut and conduct training to execute their plot. Another operative, Muhsen Al Ghanem, was tasked with managing the financial transactions from abroad.
The cell strategically established operations in two governorates, choosing Zarqa for manufacturing and Amman's Nuqaira area for warehousing. They procured necessary tools locally and imported machinery for their illicit activities. The warehouse functioned as a storage for raw materials and prototype rockets, featuring a concealed chamber with a camouflaged cement door designed to hide the rockets.
Investigations uncovered metal pieces at the homes of those involved, including tubular and conical parts, forming the structures of improvised short-range rockets akin to the GRAD model. These rockets were primed for equipping with explosives, turbines, and detonators.
According to the report, the equipment and materials confiscated could produce 300 rockets, each with a potential range of 3-5km, posing a significant threat to targets within the Kingdom.
The cell's operations were under the meticulous surveillance of security agencies, which patiently gathered intelligence until the opportune moment to apprehend the cell members. The creation of the first rocket prototype marked the zero hour for their arrest.
The report included footage of the sites used for these illegal activities, materials used in rocket manufacturing, and confessions from cell members detailing their operations both domestically and abroad.
