Jordan voted on Thursday in favour of a draft resolution adopted by the Third Committee of the UN, affirming the right of Palestinians to self-determination, including the right to an “independent Palestinian state.”

The resolution was supported by 167 countries, while five voted against it, including Israel. Seven countries abstained.

The resolution urged all states, UN agencies and organisations to continue supporting the Palestinian people to realise their right to self-determination.

The Third Committee, concerned with human rights, humanitarian, social and cultural affairs, is one of the six committees of the UN General Assembly.
