Amman: King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized the necessity for a unified Arab and Islamic stance and a joint effort to halt unprecedented Israeli measures in Jerusalem, particularly concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Noble Sanctuary.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, during a meeting at Al-Husseiniya Palace with the Arab Ministerial Committee, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's commitment to safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite custodianship. The committee, responsible for addressing illegal Israeli actions in occupied Jerusalem, included foreign ministers from Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, as well as representatives from Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia.
In the presence of Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the King highlighted the risks of escalating regional unrest to enforce a new status quo in the holy city. He warned that continued Israeli actions in the West Bank, including land annexation and settlement expansion, could exacerbate the conflict.
Senior officials, including Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, King Abdullah's advisor for religious and cultural affairs, participated in the discussions, which stressed the importance of implementing all phases of the comprehensive peace plan for Gaza. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and Engineer Alaa Batayneh, Director of the King's Office, also attended the meeting.
