Amman: Jordan's Department of Statistics (DoS) has reported a modest increase of 0.04% in the Industrial Production Index (IPI) for the first four months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The index rose to 87.16 points from 87.12 points in the previous year.
According to Jordan News Agency, the sector-specific analysis revealed that the mining and quarrying sector experienced a significant rise, with production increasing by 5.06% at a volume of 5.4%. The electricity sector also saw a growth of 3.64%, with a weight of 5.9%. However, the manufacturing sector, which comprises a substantial portion of the index at 88.7%, experienced a decline of 0.48%.
On a monthly basis, the industrial production index showed a decrease of 1.19% in April 2026 compared to April 2025, dropping to 84.41 points from 85.43. Compared to March 2026, the index declined from 89.06 to 84.41, primarily due to a 5.15% slump in manufacturing and a 14.03% drop in electricity production. Despite these declines, there was a 4.49% increase in mining and quarrying output.
The Department of Statistics attributed the year-on-year decline in April to reduced manufacturing output, though this was partially offset by improvements in mining and electricity generation.
