Amman: Jordan Economic Forum (JEF) released a report titled "Job Creation in the Kingdom in 2024: Concentration and Beneficiary Groups," which highlights the creation of approximately 184,926 jobs for individuals aged 15 and above. During the same period, around 89,584 people exited the labor market.
According to Jordan News Agency, the JEF paper revealed that about 96,421 new job opportunities emerged in both the public and private sectors, achieving approximately 96.4% of the annual target set within the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV). This development signifies the efforts to enhance labor market dynamics and a commitment to generating sustainable employment that addresses unemployment and enhances living standards.
The report detailed the distribution of new job opportunities, with 69.3% for males and 30.7% for females, translating to 66,804 and 29,617 jobs, respectively. The private sector led the job creation efforts, accounting for 75.7% of the new positions, highlighting successful economic policies and reforms in boosting job opportunities despite geopolitical challenges.
In contrast, the public sector contributed to 23.6% of the new jobs, underscoring the private sector's vital role in achieving growth and employment objectives under the Economic Modernization Vision. The paper also emphasized a clear preference for employing Jordanian workers, who filled 90% of the new positions, while non-Jordanian Arab nationalities and non-Arabs accounted for 6.2% and 3.7%, respectively.
Regarding economic activities, the manufacturing, wholesale, and retail trade sectors collectively accounted for the largest share of job creation, each contributing 15.4%. The public administration and defense sectors followed with 14.6%, while the education and health sectors stood at 11.5% and 10.2%, respectively.
